Kid Friendly Places is on a mission to make everyday environments more welcoming for children and the people who care for them.

Families with young children are a significant part of the population and influence decisions across hospitality, leisure, healthcare and public services.

Many organisations want to be welcoming to children and families, yet everyday environments often include avoidable barriers that make visits harder than they need to be.

Right now, there is no clear, consistent standard for what “kid friendly” practice looks like. We aim to change that by supporting organisations to make practical, cost-effective improvements, and recognise good practice through independent certification.

WHAT WE DO

For Organisations

In Scotland, where children’s rights increasingly inform policy and practice, organisations are actively looking for practical ways to demonstrate genuine family inclusion.

Kid Friendly Places supports businesses and services to implement meaningful and cost-effective improvements in child friendliness and provides independent recognition of organisations’ commitment to welcoming families. We work across hospitality, retail, leisure, healthcare, community settings and beyond — anywhere children are part of the experience.

When environments work well for children and carers, they work better for everyone — improving access, experience and trust.

By working with us, you can:

As well as certification, we also offer bespoke consultancy, staff training, and innovative tools — including augmented reality that allows you to see your venue from a child’s perspective — to provide practical support where it’s needed most.

Certification packages from £325.

CERTIFICATION

Through self-assessment and an on-site visit, we assess both physical environments and organisational practices across six key domains:

The Certification Standards have been shaped through a Parent & Carer Consultation, research into real-world examples of good practice, and established principles of children’s rights and inclusion.  The process is designed to be supportive and collaborative, helping organisations identify practical improvements and recognise what they are already doing well.
